Halfway through the festival, and there's somehow more fantastic things to come.  So far, on Day 2 of this year's Grassroots festival, we really were treated to just an amazing lineup.  Again.  Some of our personal favorites got the day started off.  The Rozatones and New Neighbors both had great sets on the Infield stage to kick the day off despite looming rain.  Ayurveda stretched their boundaries with members of Alash joining them on stage in the afternoon, which was immediately followed by a face melting performance from The Campbell Brothers, who were the smash hit of the weekend so far.  As far as we're concerned though, the queen of original soul music, Sharon Jones raised this festival to another level with her high energy grooves.  To wrap it all up?  Jsan, Sim Redmond, and John Brown's Body... what more could a local music fan ask for?  Click here for our pictures from Day 2 of Grassroots 2009 so far, lots more to come!
There's a lot more where these came from, but as promised here's a taste of what we've been enjoying here at the Grassroots Festival so far.  Day 1, Thursday, July 16th, was one for the record books.  7,500 concert goers enjoyed incredible performances from The Horseflies, Toots and The Maytals, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, New Neighbors, Donna The Buffalo and many more!  Check out our Day 1 run through for now, by clicking here, which we will be updating as the weekend goes on!  Come say hi to us, see you tonight for John Brown's Body and Sharon Jones!
Hello from Grassroots indeed!  IthacaMusic.com is on the scene and covering the whooole freaking festival for you.  We're gonna be uploading pictures at the end of every night to give you an idea of the madness that is underway here in Trumansburg.  If you've got photos you'd like to add to our collection, please email them to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  We'll also be giving you a run down of each days events and we'll do our best to get video footage up as soon as we can edit some down for you.  Bring your sunscreen, it's hot out here!  See you at Grassroots!
There's a new Spot in town, a Sweet Spot at that.  Most of us are in agreement that we can never get enough music in this town, let alone places to host live music at.  Thankfully there's a new place open that you should totally check out.  It's called The Sweetspot Lounge.  Since some things have been changing at the Lost Dog, Sprocket Rages, the man behind booking all the fabulous shows there has taken the reigns of Sweetspot and is doing a grand job thus far too.  Located at 1779 Hanshaw Rd., the Sweetspot Lounge boasts 8800 sq. ft. with a brand new stage, 10,000 watts.  Pool Tables, Dart Boards, Indoor Putting Green, Indoor Golf Simulators, Beer & Wine, and Great Food.  The banquet hall is also available for bachelor parties, and wedding receptions.
The 19th Annual Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance is upon us and they've pulled out all the stops for sure.  Which kind of makes us wonder how they'll top themselves next year for their 20th anniversary, but anyway.  An extremely powerful lineup this year including Rusted Root, Bela Fleck and Oumou Sangare, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Scythian, John Brown's Body and so many more.  Full lineup here.  IthacaMusic.com will be bringing you live daily coverage of the festival right here on our site including pictures, videos and interviews.  We're beyond amped for this and we know you are too.  Make sure to check out http://www.grassrootsfest.org for more info on how you can do your part to help out.  See you there!

Band Submissions

We've created a fairly extensive list of the local artists in this town and included a few regional favorites that come here to play often enough.  Our idea is that every band should have a mini-profile where people can find out about your band, what you play, and see some photos and hear some songs.  We've written some rough information that we'll eventually upload if we don't hear from you, but you know your band best.

Judy Hyman of The Horseflies, one of Ithaca's most legendary bands, has been kind enough to be among the first to submit information to us.  This is what their profile looks like, and what yours will look like too!

If you click on the picture below, a form will open where you can enter all the pertinent information about your band or yourself as a performer.  When you send the form, we'll get an email with everything, including the pictures and songs you upload; then we'll get it on the site as soon as possible.  So if you play around town, and want people to know more about what you do, please click below to get started.  We look forward to hearing from you!

For um...?

forum

We wanted to write a quick little ditty, much as we do with our Forum here on IthacaMusic.com.  We've been trying to utilize it more often because not everything can be written about in a full article.  If you check out our Forum page above you can get involved in the action, read some good news, start your own news, and check out concert photos and reviews as well.  In a band?  Why not let people know more info about your upcoming shows than what we post in our events calendar?  Increase your show turnout for free!  If you're one of the 200+ account holders already signed up, just log in and you'll be all set to start posting.  What's in the Forum right now?  Well, why don't you head on over and see, but before you do, don't forget to create a free account to the left of this article so that you can join in!

JBB Re-Amplify

re-amplify

It's time to Re-Amplify

Just announced, John Brown's Body will be hitting the road again in support of their new 6-song Remix EP titled 'Re-Amplify'.  Some crazy cool remixes are expected by Disashi of Gym Class Heroes as well as Australian phenom, Blue King Brown.  Here's all the juicy details, don't miss JBB's homecoming show at Castaways on April 24th with SOJA!

"When we go back on the road next month we will have a NEW RELEASE with us called RE-AMPLIFY. The ep features 6 remixes from AMPLIFY and a live track that was recorded during our fall tour with Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad at The Aggie Theater in Fort Collins, CO.

RE-AMPLIFY will debut exclusively on iTunes March 3rd and then a full release on March 17th. You can pre-order the record, see the album artwork, and pick up a new JBB shirt inspired by one of our most popular tour posters here: PRE-ORDER RE-AMPLIFY

We have a diverse group of producers and artists on the record from all over the world. The story of this EP is every bit as interesting and inspiring as the music itself. We will start putting together some of our experience working with these wonderful people and let you know more about how this project took off in the coming weeks. We will be posting many of the songs soon.

The producers involved on RE-AMPLIFY include:

Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo: guitarist from the Gold Record Certified Gym Class Heroes
Tommie Sunshine: American rave legend and remixer of songs by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, Panic! At The Disco, Good Charlotte and others
GoldieLocks: up-and-coming artist/producer from the UK, recently nominated for DJ Mag Best British Breakthrough Producer and featured in a photo spread in Maxim
Dubmatix: one of Canada’s best known reggae producers, recently nominated for a Juno
Blue King Brown: Australian reggae/afro-beat masters, of whom Carlos Santana said, “…my favorite band right now”
Wrongtom: London DJ who has remixed Hard-Fi, Lily Allen and Roots Manuva

'RE-AMPLIFY takes the Future Roots sound we achieved on AMPLIFY even further into directions we might never have gone on our own,' says drummer Tommy Benedetti. 'It’s been exciting hearing our songs in other producers’ hands. We enjoyed Dubmatix’s version of ‘The Gold’ so much, we are going to start playing it that way live. Then we bring it full circle to the early JBB sound by ending the record with a new roots track we’ve been having fun playing on the road.'

MORE NEWS:

We are hitting the road hard starting next month with Blue King Brown for 8 shows in Colorado and the West Coast, and then we join SOJA for 7 dates in the East Coast including some of our most anticipated concerts in Ithaca and Boston!

Be well and we hope to see you all soon.

Peace,

JBB"
